Being involved in the equine industry is a rewarding experience.  You enjoy your horse & your club of like minded friends.  You may even be making some income as a boarder or trainer.  Life is good! Then one day something unexpected happens.  Your beloved horse gets sick or injures someone, your club treasurer empties the bank account or a customer accuses you of harmful neglect.  Are you and your horse protected?  Is your club or business protected?  Did you know that there is insurance available to cover these types of losses?

 

We want to provide you with a base understanding of the different types of equine insurance available.  That way if any of the above situations arise you will be protected.  Most equine insurance providers offer customization options so you are sure to get what you need.

  • Personal liability coverage

A personal liability policy provides coverage for accidental bodily injury or property damage to a third party arising out of the use and/or ownership of a horse(s) both on and off the premises.

  • Mortality coverage

A mortality policy should be considered by horse owners, horse lessors and horse lessees.  This protects the owner/lessor/lessee against the loss of a horse as a result of a covered accident, injury, illness or disease.  Some policies include coverage for theft of the horse.

  • Major Medical coverage

A major medical policy provides coverage for veterinary medical and surgical expenses incurred for a covered horse as a result of a covered accident, injury, illness or disease.

  • Fidelity/Crime coverage

A fidelity/crime policy should be considered by any club that deals with funds.  This policy protects organizations from loss of money, securities, or inventory resulting from crime. Crime definitions may include, employee/volunteer dishonesty, embezzlement, forgery, robbery, safe burglary, computer fraud, wire transfer fraud, or counterfeiting.

  • Directors & Officers coverage

A directors & officers policy may provide coverage for actual or alleged breach of duty, neglect, error, misstatement, misleading statement omission or act committed solely in the course of club activities.

A general liability policy provide coverage for club activities such as meetings, clinics, schooling shows, parade days and more.
